Many PTSD symptoms can lead to anxiety in your marital partner or other intimate relationships. It's anxiety provoking to not understand them and feel helpless to do anything about your loved one's "strange" behavior. Irritability. Anger. Refusal to say"what's going on" in their head. (They don't usually know, theirself.)
Symptoms of "numbing" (part of PTSD) leads to emotional and physical distance & loss of interest in sex. Maybe your spouse finds it difficult to express love. Also-part of PTSD numbing.
The lack of emotional closeness combined with your own spousal anxiety sends the relationship off onto a rocky road. Yet- social support is one of the main "safety-nets" that will lead to healing. I advise spouses to try to understand as much as possible about the condition of PTSD or TBI. Counseling both for the individual with PTSD and the spouse is the most sure route to restoring intimacy.
The following website is one additional resource for families who are dealing with PTSD.
