1. How do people with PTSD handle Intimacy? Men or women who were sexually assaulted might feel safer in relationships with individuals of the same gender- opposite to the person who sexually assaulted them.
2. Other people, crave intimacy but find theirselves unable to pass the Intimacy threshold to sexual intimacy.
3. Some PTSD'rs isolate from everyone-family or friends.
4. PTSD symptoms of hypervigilance and numbing both contribute to maintaining distance in intimate relations.
Regardless of how it manifests- rebuilding a sense of trust is the cornerstone to healing. Restoring trust takes commitment and patience on both partners parts.
PTSD acts as a "moat" around our inner selves. It protects us from others but likewise prevents
others from getting close to us.
Tomorrow in Part II, we'll discuss the "how" to begin to rebuild trust in intimate relationships.
Till then, God Bless-
ANJYL
